I Samuel 25:30-31 And it shall come to pass, when the LORD shall have done to my lord according to all the good that he hath spoken concerning thee, and shall have appointed thee ruler over Israel; 31 That this shall be no grief unto thee, nor offence of heart unto my lord, either that thou hast shed blood causeless, or that my lord hath avenged himself: but when the LORD shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thine handmaid.
David is angry and on his way to kill Nabal. Abigail gives wise advice that applies for all of us. David felt that he was in the right to stand up for himself and his men. He would go over and avenge the shame this man tried to put on him. Abigail reminds him that one day soon he would be enjoying God’s blessings and it would be best not to have to remember doing something out of anger, for the wrong reasons.
Everyday we are faced with people that take advantage of us and do us wrong. It is part of life. We would do well to remember that God is at work in our lives. He will and is doing great things with us. It is far better to do right and have nothing to regret tomorrow. Let the Lord fight your battles for you!
Strict on the little stuff ignoring the big stuff
Luke 11:42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
The Pharisees were making a big mistake that we are prone to make. They were very meticulous to do the little things that they thought were right and to ignore the big things. Kind of like the saying “majoring on the minors and minoring on the majors!” I have been so guilty of this that I am embarrassed. It is good to take care of the little things no doubt but if we lose the big picture we have made a mistake.
That is what has been known to make us judgmental, critical, proud, arrogant, and really mess us up spiritually!
