Today’s reading James 1-5
James 3:14-18 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
There are two kinds of wisdom. We can honestly believe that we are doing the right thing. We can honestly try to justify what we are thinking, saying, and doing but we need to test our wisdom.
“Wisdom” will produce a result in your actions. You need to know that you can easily think that you are being wise, doing the right thing, thinking the right way but you should test your wisdom.
If your wisdom, way of thinking, mindset, world view, is producing bitterness, envy, fussing, fighting, etc then it is not a wisdom that comes from God. It is not the way we are to think or act. This kind of wisdom is earthly, sensual-or you are doing what feels good to you, devilish-you are doing what the devil would have you do and not God. This kind of wisdom leads to strife, envy, confusion, and evil work-or actions that are not Christ like and do not please God.
God’s wisdom is just the opposite. It will produce peace and make you a person of peace. It will be gentle. It will make it easy for people to talk to you, to ask of you, to get things right with you! It will be full of mercy. You will not be looking for your “pound of flesh!” You will not be trying to get even. There will be good fruits produced by this type of wisdom. You will not be hypocritical. You will not be picking sides. God’s wisdom is a wisdom of peace and making peace.
Look over your thought life. Look over your feelings. Look over your actions. Test your wisdom. Which one is being exhibited in your life?
