James 4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
God’s people seem to have smack talk as a hobby, you know what I mean. We seem to always want to talk about our brothers and sisters in a way that casts them in a bad light. It is as though we feel like their mistakes and sins make us look better.
We find their mistakes. We magnify their mistakes. We don’t really care about them but us. Our goal is to look at them, find them wrong and move up in our own estimation.
We spend little time considering ourselves and our mistakes, failures and sins!
We are instructed here to not talk evil about our brothers and sisters. Doing so is a sign of disrespect towards the Word of God. We want to be judges not obedient servants.
We want to judge others instead of ourselves. We want to find fault not confess it!
The old saying is, if you can’t say something nice just don’t say anything. That is not our common practice. Instead we love to put down others so that we feel lifted up!
God forgive us!
