Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Notice how many times Lucifer says “I!” For Lucifer everything needed to revolve around him. He felt like he should be like the most High God of the universe. He felt like he should be treated like he was the important one!
How often we fall into this trap. Our favorite word can become “I!” We like to talk about ourselves, our goals, our plans. We like to consider how we will better ourselves and our position. We want to extend our kingdom.
This attitude creeps into the church and Christianity! It is so easy to fall into this. We must die to this attitude. We must die to ourselves. Jesus is King and should be treated that way.
We should pray–your will be done, your kingdom come!
