July 12, 1943

Hello Dad,

I’ve got that new address at last. I moved yesterday evening. As expected, I came only about six miles. For some reason or another, I don’t think I am going to like it here. Anyway, I don’t have long to wait before starting to school. I start Tuesday. I am really on a tough shift, too; from 06:40 in the evening to 01:45 at night.

I have six or eight weeks to go here, then I will be that grand and glorious Sergeant (buck) with that many stripes (three). We will most likely get out of here the 31st of August. I mean that is when we graduate.

I can’t write so much today for the simple reason I don’t know it, but I will write you again soon with more as I find it out.

So long, Dad,
