Mark 9:35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

We seem to always want to be someone important. We want to be first. We want to be recognized. Jesus tells us how to be a leader or to be the first. We must serve and be last. This was not to make fun of their desire but to teach a very important truth. With the Lord Jesus what is most important is your time serving others.

Our goal is not to be the boss but the servant. Everything in His kingdom is upside down compared to the world. To lead we serve.

Why don’t you set out to lead today by serving as many people as you can!

Tomorrow’s reading Mark 10

Superficial friends

Judges 14:20 But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.

Samson has gone the way of the world at least for the moment. He is living in rebellion against his parents and even the will of God for his life. God will use even his mess ups for His honor and glory but Samson is still outside the will of God.

This verse shows us something about superficial friends. Samson was the life of the party, the good looking fellow, the guy all the girls wanted, and the strongest man anywhere. He had friends but they were only his friends while they could use him.

The minute Samson is in trouble they simply take advantage of his problems.

That brings two questions to mind: What kind of friend are you? What kind of friends do you have?
