Today’s reading Ezekiel 23-25
Ezekiel 24:18 So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.
What a lesson in obedience. Ezekiel’s wife died in the evening and the next morning Ezekiel carried on with the will of God for his life. He obeyed God’s commandment.
God had told Ezekiel earlier that He would take away the desire of his eyes but Ezekiel was not to mourn. He was to continue doing God’s will for his life.
The question is who or what is more important in my life. My wife, my life, or what God wants for me. He is Lord and is to be followed and obeyed as such.
Remember that Ezekiel is living the message he has been given to preach. We should love God more than anything or anyone. The loss of a loved one should not hinder our love or service to the Lord.
In the New Testament Jesus said that we couldn’t be His disciples if we did not hate all but Him. It is a choice. Who is most important in your life.
This cuts across the grain in modern Christianity. A cultural christian would never understand such love and devotion. The cultural christian would only think that God is here to meet our needs and to prosper us. The cultural christian has no concept of dying to self, taking up his or her cross, seeking Jesus first, etc.
What do you think? Where are you?
