Today’s reading Deuteronomy 12-15
Deuteronomy 15:15 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day.
God’s people were to remember that they had been bondmen in the land of Egypt. That would affect how they were to treat others that might get into trouble financially or end up being slaves.
It is amazing how quickly we forget where we were and how hard we can get on people that are where we were. If we would but remember what it felt like to be the slave. If we could and would remember what it was like to be lost and not know where to turn or what to do.
We could help others so much more if we would not forget that we didn’t get ourselves to where we are today. The thing that we are so guilty of is forgetting. We forget that it wasn’t that long ago that we were slaves to sin. We then judge others harshly. We say that if we could change they too should be able to change.
We forget that He changed us. We forget what we felt and thought when we were in sin.
It is amazing how quickly we begin to think that we have always had money, been able to pay our bills, taken care of our families, and didn’t worry about money. It is amazing how quickly we feel like we have become spiritual. We read our Bibles, never fall into sin, and are so superior to others.
God told His people. Don’t forget who you are and where you came from. It will help you show some love!
