Today’s reading is Genesis 27:41-30:24

Genesis 29:20 And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.

Love makes anything worth it. Jacob loved Rachel. He was told he couldn’t marry her for 7 years. Instead of being bitter or having a bad attitude he simply went to work. The 7 years seemed but as a few days to him.

I wonder if we think there is something magical about love that makes things work out without effort on our part. I wonder if we could put ourselves in their position and think of how we might react.

Do we consider that love pays a price joyfully? Do we realize that our marriage requires effort, time, patience?

Do we consider how we might pay whatever or do whatever is necessary to express our love.

Today it seems that marriage is cheap and easy to many. They do not consider that they will work hard to make it work. They do not work at loving and knowing each other. They do not seem to care that it takes time.

If things do not go my way then I will go my way they think. Real love takes responsibility seriously and personally. Will you love your spouse?

I want to be the best possible husband. I have been married long enough to know that it is my responsibility to make my marriage work. I challenge you to love like Jacob. Pay the price and you will eventually reap the rewards!
