Ezra 9:13 And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;
Ezra acknowledged that God had punished them less than they deserved if measured by the sins that they had committed.
He knew that they were being punished, chastised by God.
He recognized that God was delivering them even though they didn’t deserve it.
The thing that speaks the loudest to me is that Ezra knew that though they were suffering of their sins it was less than they deserved.
Most of us will not acknowledge that we have sinned. If we do not realize that we have sinned we can not get right with God. We think that we are right. We actually think that we determine what is right and wrong.
When things do go wrong we think that it is not punishment or discipline but rather coincidence. Then we think even with that that we do not deserve it.
Will you acknowledge that you do not determine what is sin or what is right and wrong but God does?
Will you acknowledge that you have sinned against a Holy God? If you realized that you have sinned then you are on your ready to be forgiven.
Will you acknowledge that the punishment that you are getting is less than you deserve?
Our pride likes to think better of ourselves than we deserve and less of God than He deserves!
