I grew up in a Christian family that loved and served the Lord. At the age of eleven, I accepted Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. Although I was saved at the age of eleven, I didn’t surrender to missions until the age of eighteen. I was attending a missions conference when God called me to serve Him full time using 2 Corinthians 5:15.
After I surrendered, I went to the Our Generation Training Center to study for missions. I met my wife there at the Training Center. She grew up on the mission field and had a heart and desire to serve God as a missionary. Her parents were missionaries in Peru for 12 years and now they are missionaries to the military with BIMI. God brought us together, and we were married in January of 2017. We just had a baby boy, Jaxon Elliot Bloom in August and are excited about going as a family to the country of Ecuador.
One of the biggest blessings of going to the Our Generation Training Center was being involved at Vision Baptist Church. I was able to participate in many ministries of the church and learn from the leadership staff. I was able to serve and learn at Vision Baptist Church and many people there are like a second family to me. I was able to spend with and learn from Pastor Gardner as well as from the assistant pastors Trent and Robert. They were mentors and helpers to me. They helped me grow in my relationship with Christ as well as learn about ministry. Vision has a heart for God’s Word and Biblical teaching and preaching both from the pulpit and in life-on-life discipleship. It is wonderful to have a home church that models what a local biblical church should look like.
After spending two years at the Our Generation Training Center in the states, I had a chance to go down for six months to Peru and do an internship missionary David Gardner there. I was able to experience living in a different culture and speaking another language. I learned a lot about cross-cultural ministry and culture shock. While I was in Peru, God put a burden on my heart for South America. I began to pray over and visit several countries in South America, and God led me to the country of Ecuador.
My wife and I were accepted as missionaries to Ecuador in January of 2017 by Vision Baptist Missions, and we started deputation in June of that year. The director of Vision Baptist Missions, Jeff Bush, has been a huge blessing and help to me. I am able to continue to learn about missions from the weekly and monthly classes that are held by Vision Baptist Missions. We are also able to stay in constant contact with other missionaries and be encouraged to learn and grow by yearly orientation, marriage retreats, and regional conferences.
