Pastor Austin Gardner invites Missionary Jason Holt once again and this time discusses with him his testimony and how God brought him through losing his parents.

  • Jason’s Testimony
    • Raised in a pastor’s home
    • Made a profession when he was young, but wasn’t saved
    • He got saved as a teenager and his life totally changed
  • The Green Hair Story
    • The girls at school were allowed to dye their hair, but boys weren’t
    • Jason rebelled and died his hair green
    • That didn’t go over well
  • The Knife Story
    • He and his brother were fighting and throwing punches
    • His brother pulled a knife on him
    • He pulled a chair on his brother
    • After all that, his dad had a conversation with him about desperately wanting him to be saved and love the Lord
    • That had a huge impact on him
  • Jason’s mom’s story
    • His dad was a hippy raised in Atlanta
    • He got saved at a revival in his 20s
    • Within 4-5 years his dad and mom were married
    • A few years after, his mom was diagnosed with leukemia at age 26
    • The doctors recommended getting a bone marrow translate
    • They went to Seattle to have it done
    • A month after the operation, she got sick and passed away
    • Jason was only 11, and his dad was pastoring
  • How did God answer your dad’s prayers
    • They dropped into a church the first Sunday they were in Seattle, and they met a family who kind of took them under their wing and helped them
    • They had hundreds of thousands of dollars in bills, but God miraculously provided to cover them
  • How did your dad help you through it?
    • He was a huge example fo faithfulness to the Lord
    • There was no doubting or questioning God
    • He repeatedly preached God’s goodness and grace just a few weeks after Jason’s mom passed away
  • Did you deal with bitterness?
    • Yes
    • The doctors sent Jason’s mom home to Atlanta
    • There was nothing they could do
    • She was supposed to die in a few days
    • But she lived several more weeks
    • Everyone prayed and asked God to heal her
    • Jason expected God to heal her
    • Then she passed away
    • That led to Jason running from the Lord for several years
    • The year after she passed, Jason’s dad remarried
  • Were there anger issues with that?
    • Yes
    • Jason had a friend who said that if his dad would marry so shortly after everything, then he must not have loved his mom very much
  • Jason’s ordination
    • A month before Jason’s dad passed away, he preached at his ordination
    • They had no idea he was going to pas away
    • His dad was very proud of him
    • He said that he would rather Jason come home in a casket than because of sin or quitting
  • Jason’s dad loved to brag about how God took care of him
    • He was a diabetic
    • He had all kinds of health problems from it
    • His blood sugar was very low one day when he was drying
    • It made him delirious and drive like he was drunk
    • Someone called 911 to ask for help
    • The first responders got there and began helping his dad
    • They tried to find the person who made the call, but there were no records or any evidence that someone was there
    • Jason’s dad believe that it was the Lord sending and angel to protect him
  • What would you say to someone who want’s to serve God but doesn’t have a godly heritage?
    • There are people all over the world that deal with that
    • They are first generation Christians and are often threatened to be kicked out of their families for serving God
    • There are people all over the world who are choosing to love God more than family
    • Pancho came to Jason’s first church service
    • Later he got saved and called to the ministry
    • His family threatened to disown him
    • He chose to follow God anyway
    • Now his family is excited for him
    • If you have a good heritage, great
    • If not, don’t let your background keep you from serving the Lord
  • How d you overcome bitterness?
    • You come to point where you realize that you only deserve hell
    • Sometimes in our flesh we feel like we deserve certain blessings for our health and life
    • But we really only deserve hell
    • Anything beyond that is a gift of God’s grace
    • All that we have is just by pure grace
    • If we really understand that, how can we be bitter?
    • Only flesh can cause us to not realize God’s goodness
    • God used those hard circumstances in his life to grow and mature him quickly
  • Closing Remarks
