Deuteronomy 9:19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also.

God’s people have built a golden calf to worship. God was very angry. He told Moses that He would destroy them and raise up another people. Moses prayed. God listened and granted Moses his request.

Moses knew that the people were rebellious and didn’t deserve God’s forgiveness. Moses knew that God had not chosen them because of their inherent goodness.

Today, I know that I am not any where near what I ought to be. I know that I do not deserve for God to listen when I pray. I do not deserve for Him to answer my prayers but He has promised to do just that. He is a prayer hearing and answering God.

We can take heart from what we see in the Bible. Bring your requests to Him, make them known, go ahead and say thank you and let the peace of God flood your heart. You serve a real, true, living, prayer hearing and answering God!

Tomorrow’s reading Deuteronomy 10

Gentle Pastors

II Timothy 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

The servant of the Lord here refers to the pastor or leader of the work of God. He is to be gentle. He is to be patient. He is not to strive or fight. Those are some strong words for many pastors. We are more apt to push people around, use the “bully” pulpit, get our way or whatever you want to call it.

The word used here is “must!” That is how we are to be. I want to be gentle and kind. I want to honor God by treating His people correctly!
