Determining Deputation

Your deputation is a self fulfilling prophecy. Your faith and trust in God causes you to act a certain way and it will produce certain results. If you think that the pastor will give you a meeting it is much more likely to happen if you believe. Your faith or lack thereof is heard in your voice. If you think that he will not then you will get that because it is exactly what you are trusting God for!

If you drag your feet making phone calls then you have no one to blame but yourself. God will supply your support but He will not give it to you when all you do is sit down lazily and wait for God to just drop the support in your lap!

Deputation is the easiest part of your ministry. The language, the culture, being alone are all worse!

Getting a church started is not as easy as you think!

I want to motivate you guys to start calling. Some missionaries will tell you that they didn’t make calls. They are bragging about how they got their support. They mean well but it causes some of you to get bitter and lazy. You think that it is not fair that they got it so easily and you are not getting it that way.

I had to make phone calls. I didn’t like it but I had to! I had to pray in and save money. I didn’t like it but I had to. I made more phone calls than you can imagine! I did it before the computer and cell phone. It cost me lots of money each month. Over $300 a month in phone bills on a push button dial old fashion phone! I am challenging you to get on the phone

Every excuse works for you. You have to this or that. If God called you then set a date and get out of here. Get to the field. Most of our excuses would be embarrassing if anyone heard them. You are supposed to work. That means at least 40 hours a week.

What is your reason for not getting on the phone?

Your blog, prayer letter, email, etc are a waste of time compared to your getting on the phone!

We brag about being better than most but we seem to drag better than most! Here we are not saving for our set up fund, not getting our support, acting all happy but not really working at it.

The sleep of a working man is sweet! How is your sleep?

Now I know you are mad but 2 years is more than enough. You can get it done.

We were the ones that wanted to evangelize the world in this generation but we are not getting into churches.

Are you doing your job on deputation? 13 meetings a month! If you have an open meeting between now and 2 years since the date you set to start your deputation then be on the phone 8 hours a day until you plug the holes. Drop in if not. Travel farther out if you have to. Plan where to drop in when you do not have a meeting.

Do not go for what is easy or close. Bust yourself! God is watching and will bless hard work but not excuses.

Pray over where to drop in. Do not make this just about the numbers. Pray, beg God for where to go!

Don’t hide out to make people think you are in churches!

You determine how well your deputation goes. Don’t blame it on anyone else!

  1. Awesome post! I agree with everything you said. We raised our support in 13 months. Was in 145 churches with 91 supporting. Traveled over 100k miles but it laid off. BTW the saving of money is key. Pastors like workers not beggars. Pray you are doing well. Have prayed for you often. God bless Bro Gardner

Thanks for stopping by and reading. I am blessed to see how God has used you on deputation and believe that it is still possible. Glad you are showing people that it can be done!

  2. The biggest thing i’m learning in my study about deputation is that it all hinges on whether or not you do the work and not circumstances. Great article on busting it and not making excuses.
