Mark 10:37 They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.
It appears that man is always seeking promotion and to better his life. Here James and John come to Jesus asking to be His number 2 and number 3 in the kingdom. One would like the right hand and the other would like the left hand. Jesus tells them that they do not even know what they ask.
With the Lord Jesus serving is leadership. But theirs is not an attitude of service but of being served.
It is interesting to note that in just a few years James will be killed with a sword and John will be a prisoner on the isle of Patmos.
You do not always get want you want.
Tomorrow’s reading Mark 11
Playing with sin will bring praise to the Devil
Judges 16:24 And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.
Samson is the man of God. He constantly likes to play with sin. He likes to toy with it to show how strong he is and that sin cannot conquer him. Finally the sin does conquer him. He falls. He is now in the hands of the enemy.
It may seem like a small thing but now the enemy begins to mock the God of Heaven and to praise their false God because they have conquered Samson.
They didn’t conquer Samson. Samson conquered Samson. They got the benefit but the Devil can’t defeat us. As Samson lived in his own strength and played with sin he brought about his own fall.
Are we playing with sin? Are we thinking that we have it all under control? Do we think we can take our relationship with the Lord and all that He has done for us for granted?
Seek Him. Walk with Him. Hate sin for what it did to Jesus on the cross and for what it can do to you. Hate sin for how it can be an embarrassment to the God of Heaven.
