This week, Pastor is Joined by Jason Rishel, missionary to Burkina Faso. They discuss the need for missionaries in Africa, Jason’s personal testimony, and the importance of the influence that pastors and missionaries can have on the younger generation.

    • Some people might say it’s Christian
    • The Christianity is mostly Catholic or charismatic
    • It’s just another false religion 
    • A lady came from a charismatic church, got saved, and said that she never heard the Gospel at the other church
    • Very few people are true believers
    • Even in the churches there would be few that understand and believe the Gospel
  • Lives Changed in Burkina
    • In Burkina, their lives totally change after they get saved
    • Norbaire was the village drunk
    • Now he brings a ton of people to church
    • He brought Alla
    • Her husband wouldn’t go to church
    • A year later he came 
    • His wife had totally changed 
    • He wanted to see why she was different 
  • Jason’s Call
    • He was interested when he was 11
    • He got distracted in high school
    • He thought money, jobs, and family were important
    • He went on a missions trip and God worked in his heart
    • If he lived his life for himself, these people would go to hell
    • He knew he should live for Christ and others
  • Jason’s Childhood Influences
    • His parents were really involved in church
    • His mom was always serving 
    • She taught him to do VBS and teach Sunday school
    • She played a big part in his life
    • Parents need to let their kids be involved
    • They might not be great when they start, but they will get better as you teach them 
    • His aunt made an impact on him
    • She bought an elephant 
    • She wanted him to pray for Africa whenever he passed it.
    • Parents need to pray with their kids for the world

    • He was the first American missionary to Africa 
    • He attributes it to his grandma praying with him
    • He was a former slave
    • He worked to buy his own freedom
    • He became a pastor at a successful church
    • The left the church and his job to be a missionary 
    • He started the colony of Liberia for freed slaves
    • God really used him
    • God will use black people 
    • Racism is terrible 
    • We don’t expect black people to be used 
  • Parents Can Influence their Children
    • Kids love what their parents love
    • If you love baseball, so will they
    • If you love missions, so will they
    • Pray with them about it
    • The Bible says that our children are arrows
    • We need to raise them to want to serve God
  • Jason’s Other Influences
    • His pastor really helped him
    • He gave him chances to preach and go soul-winning and get involved in ministry.
    • Keith Shumaker influenced his heart for Africa
  • Investing in Kids
    • Missionaries, don’t treat kids like nuisance 
    • Keep up with them and invest in them
    • They are the next generation of Christians
    • Pastors need to invest in them too
    • Jason’s pastor let him get involved 
    • His pastor spent time with him and made a huge impact on his life
    • He was only 11 when he met Keith Shumaker
    • Then, when he was 16, he went on a missions trip with Keith
    • Now, twenty years later, he is a missionary in the same country.

  • Family in Missions
    • Jason’s family is very supportive 
    • Even when others tried to talk him out of it
    • Their support helped him a lot
    • His wife’s parent’s are missionaries 
    • They were very supportive too
  • Helping Your Wife’s Attitude about Missions
    • You attitude affects hers
    • Speak really positively about it
    • Talk about the great things God has done
    • She needs to see her husband as the man of God
  • Geography in Burkina
    • It’s very brown and dusty
    • Even the sky is brown during a dust storm
    • It’s close to the Sahara
