Britain is a large island off the northwest coast of continental Europe. It is the third most populous island in the world with about 61 million people. It contains most of England, Scotland, and Wales. Along with some smaller surrounding islands and Northern Ireland, it makes up the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Ireland is another European island about 40% the size of Britain. With 6.6 million people, it is the second most populous island in Europe. It is divided into two main parts, the Republic of Ireland with 4.8 million people and Northern Ireland with 1.8 million.
Both islands have rich histories and have made very significant contributions to global culture. Despite periods of much Christian activity and belief, both islands have drifted very far from truth faith in Jesus Christ. Empty religion, disbelief, and often outright antagonism toward the gospel are now the norm.
In the midst of this sad state of affairs, there is also cause for much optimism as God is working in lives, saving souls, and raising up preachers and Bible-believing churches. We invite you to come see the need and experience what God is doing. “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few.”
