Today’s reading Luke 8:22-9

Luke 9:56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

Jesus and His disciples pass through a town in Samaria. The town rejects Jesus. The apostles want Him to destroy the city. Jesus rebukes them and says that they do not realize what kind of spirit they have!

Luke 9:55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

I wonder what kind of spirit we have when we think that Jesus doesn’t love the world, that He doesn’t want everyone to be saved. I wonder how often we want everyone to be destroyed.

Jesus quickly tells them that He didn’t come to destroy but to save. That is a good picture of the heart of the Lord Jesus. He rebukes the ones who hunger to destroy. He simply moves on to the next town when He is rejected. He reminds them of why He came.

Could it be time to examine your attitude and see if it is a Christlike attitude about those that reject Christ?
