Today’s reading Jeremiah 15-18
Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. 8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
Jeremiah just finished reminding the people of the failure of the man that would trust other men or themselves. Here is the contrast. As we trust the Lord then He gives us great promises.
Trusting God helps us not even notice the heat, the problems that would destroy others. When years of drought come the person who trusts in the Lord will not worry.
That does not mean that there aren’t things to worry about but rather that this person has a higher calling. They are trusting that God will work in and through them even in this very difficult time.
One of the most beautiful promises is that they will continue to bear fruit even when the rains are not coming. They will bear fruit when the conditions do not normally lend themselves to fruit bearing.
I want to trust in the Lord. I want to know that He is at work in my life and that nothing is happening by accident.
I know that I can not trust myself. That I have proven many times over. I know that I can trust God. He has proven Himself many times. However I often take my eyes off of Him and forget to trust.
God help my unbelief. I want to trust every day and in every circumstance!
