God blessed me with the most wonderful friend, companion, coworker, wife, mother of our children, and greatest Christian I have ever known.

God works things out so that you can meet that person that is just right for you if you are seeking Him first. Betty was seeking Him and I, too, was seeking the Lord.

I really liked Betty as a person long before we were married. I loved her tender spirit. I loved her compassion, she has felt for and loved every person that she has ever met.

She has worked in every ministry that God has given us. She has believed in me, motivated me, and loved me to do all that I can for the Lord all these years. No one has ever been so kind to me. No one has ever loved me like Betty has loved me.

I think back to our first apartment in Rome, Georgia and how she cooked for me, helped me, loved me and we were just two kids playing house. I remember her going with me to Dykes Creek Baptist Church and working with the youth there. She was my rock. I remember her loving everyone.

I remember her walking out of a well off family into a small apartment where we barely made it but we always did. I remember how our lack of things and money were never the big issue with her, it was just us being together.

I remember the night we were robbed and finally I caught the thief at gun point and we called the police. We were just kids and oh so afraid. We slept all hugged up for nights.

I remember leaving an established ministry to start a church from scratch and how she believed in me. I remember her standing by my side as we experimented with the greatness of our God as we lived with no salaries for nearly two years but God meeting every need.

I remember her love for me when she was willing to sell our first home and move to Mexico to learn Spanish. She was scared. She didn’t want to go but we were married and it was God’s will for her life to follow her husband and she did just that.

If I could name a hero I would name the lady that has loved people every where we have been. It never matter what color they were, what social level, what language they spoke she was heart and soul into loving them. She has been the most tremendous mother. She raised our children to love God. She taught them, prayed with them, disciplined them, and loved them.

And God has given us 4 children that love God through the storms of life, they love Jesus.

Betty you are my hero. You have held our home together. You work harder than any person with a job out there on the planet. You love harder and deeper. You care and it shows.

You are a wonderful grandmother. You are the example and model of what a good, godly woman should be like. You are my hero. You are my friend. You are my soul mate.

I love you more than you will ever know.

Thank you for all you do. Thank you for all you are. Thank you for being the most wonderful, faithful, considerate, kind wife that any man could have for 39 years. I have spent over 2/3s of my life with you. My only regret is that I didn’t marry you sooner and that I have not been as good to you as you have to me.

I love you. Happy Anniversary.
